October is always a jam-packed month for our team. But this is the time of year when  we’re not only busy in Search Engine Optimization. It’s that special time for our highly anticipated  outside company activities as well. So on the 20th to 21st of October, we have once again marked yet another time for our team building where we come together and build stronger relationships.

GrowthScout SEO Services’ Annual Team Building

It has been a long-standing tradition of this company to have a trip once a year dedicated to strengthening our bond as a team. This 2019, our SEO company didn’t stray too far from the office as we made our way to Bulacan for a water-filled team building at San Rafael River Adventure in Baliwag.

After weeks of looking for a team-building venue to accommodate our company for weeks on end, we found this place to be the best option that we had on short notice. But with the beautiful accommodations and fair weather, it didn’t fall short of our expectations.

Here are just a few of the highlights that made this team-building experience memorable for all the members of our SEO team:

Day 1

The commute to Bulacan from Timog was not too much of a hassle with Bulacan only being a 1-2 hour trip away. We were delighted when we reached the resort to see such a lovely ambiance upon checking in. After some rest and unpacking of some of our stuff, we went straight to the night’s game activities before bedtime.

The first game we played was pass the message, which also included a hint of charades. Teams of two played against each other for some cool prizes. The next activity broke up the teams into pairs. It was a riddle-solving scavenger hunt where one member had to find the answer to the riddle hidden around the area and lead their blindfolded teammate to the answer. The night ended with some sharing of snacks and stories, which is part of the long-time tradition.

Day 2

The real team building began on day 2 of our trip. Despite staying up late sharing with one another, the team got up early to do a full-on 30 minute Zumba session to get us ready and stretched for the day’s upcoming activities. After we had our fill at breakfast, we quickly put on our rubber shoes and jogging pants and made our way to the team building grounds.

Team Warm-Up Activities

We were divided into two groups with the objective to earn more points than the other. The men were distributed evenly among the two teams. Ironically, the activity started with a Zumba warm-up as well. The first task was to create a short choreographed routine with teams taking turns to present. By the end of it, there was clearly a better team that did more than what was expected.

Afterward, teams were tasked to create flags and team chants based on their assigned team color. They also had to come up with a team name based on the characteristic of a good employee.

The Kind Red team made a flag with a red heart formed by handprints, promoting kindness as an asset to have in the workforce.

The Yellow Shining Warriors team formed a yellow star, stating that the employees who shine the best of their abilities are what make a valuable employee. Those who did their best in the three activities will earn a set of corresponding points that were to be revealed at the very end.

Obstacle Course

After having established teams and hyping the energy, the real games began, starting with the resort’s obstacle course. With a series of drills, balance beams, and a whole lot of crawling and climbing involved in this race, it was going to be a very exciting and fairly challenging experience for both teams.

The course proved difficult to a degree for some of us, especially for those of us who were “blessed with age.” But what mattered most was that no matter how slow or out of breath our least young team member was, they didn’t give up and finished the course. This was a valuable asset that was discussed to us by our facilitators. But even though there’s an A for effort, ultimately, the points were won by the Kind Red Team.

Strong Foundation, Tall Tower

The next task was a battle of wits. The objective was to build the tallest and strongest tower with the same set of materials. With thirty minutes on the clock, each team had manila paper, popsicle sticks, tape, yarn, and a sketch pad to work on this task. The Shining Yellow Warriors took the points on this one.

Floating Bridge

This task was yet another physical game where teams had to race across a sinking bridge from point A to point B one-by-one. Just like the obstacle course, this race was nowhere close to a tie with the Kind Red Team taking it home for the team once again.

Transfer the Balls, Solve the Puzzle

Strategy was the pinnacle of this relay race, where teams had to work with four pieces of string to carry toy balls from one end to another then solve a complicated puzzle. While the Yellow team lagged behind at the first half of this game, they ultimately caught up and solved the puzzle quicker, taking the points.

Step-by-Step Race

The last game was the finale to the team building program, which was a race to the end. A representative of the team must walk across the playing field stepping on sticks held by the other members of the team. In a surprising twist of events, the Yellow team ended up taking this one as well.

After tallying up all the points, the Shining Yellow Warriors took home the win with Bulacan’s fine delicacy Sapin-Sapin as their prize. Of course, this was shared with the rest of the team as well.

The day capped off with some relaxation, with everyone trying out the many amenities of the resort. From pool hopping to kayaking across the river and the thrilling giant swing, everyone ended up having a wonderful time.

After a long and tiring adventure-filled day, this small SEO team made their way back to Manila on this day. This experience was definitely filled with smiles and new learnings about one another. This  experience definitely brought us closer together, which will improve our capacity to work together moving forward.
